Polylactic acid (PLA) is a linear aliphatic polyester produced by poly-condensation of naturally produced lactic acid or by the catalytic ring opening of the lactide group. Lactic acid is produced (via starch fermentation) as a co-product of corn wet milling. The ester linkages in PLA are sensitive to both chemical hydrolysis and enzymatic chain cleavage.

Why use Recycled PET?
Other than the fact that it makes a nice fabric when combined with Hemp, by using recycled PET over virgin polyesters there is a savings of 60% in the energy usage. Another plus is that it helps support a market for the recycled product and hopefully encourages more areas to offer recycling of soda bottles and other plastic containers.
